CubeSatSim™ – CUBESAT SIMULATOR - Accepting 2025 applications soon
A specialized activity of NE SciTech's Space Science Club, specifically for students grades 7-11, CubeSatSim™ is an exploration workshop using the CubeSat Simulator, a project sponsored by the not-for-profit Radio Amateur Satellite Corporation, AMSAT®.
This workshop will have students building a satellite emulator with the following features:
Working solar panels and rechargeable batteries
Multi-channel voltage, current, and temperature telemetry transmitted in the Amateur Radio UHF band
Telemetry decoding using FoxTelem software or APRS software
STEM Payload board with Sparkfun Pro Micro or STM32F103C8T6 “Blue Pill” microcontroller & sensors
Tape measure monopole, dipole, or SMA antenna
Integrated Band Pass Filter
New 3D printed frame and solar panels
Additionally, students will explore related topics such as the atmosphere, rocketry and propulsion, general laws of physics and orbital trajectories, solar radiation, and space weather. Students work on various parts of the simulator in teams. Space is limited.
This project is possible because of the not-for-profit Radio Amateur Satellite Corporation, AMSAT®
NOTE: To participate in this program, students will need to enroll as a Teen member in New England Sci-Tech for the duration of the program.
NOTE: This web page explains the details of this workshop. The actual dates/times are still being workled out. To register, please contact Bob and discuss the best dates/times to meet.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
On alternate dates when CubeSat does not meet, students are welcome to attend other clubs, such as rocketry, robotics, or battle bots, or to continue working on CubeSat projects.
Because of traffic conditions and for your convenience, you are welcome to drop off and pick up for up to 30 minutes on each side of class time.
If a class cannot meet in person because of severe weather, we may switch to online classes via Zoom.
*NOTE: Students must be a current member of New England Sci-Tech as a "Teen" or "Family" membership level. Having a club membership alone (radio or rocketry club) or supporting membership does not qualify a student for general NEST activities and programs like this. Membership must run from at least November through March for class participation.
**NOTE: The lab fee covers incidentals, hands-on labs, and printed materials. The membership covers the tuition and allows students all the extra lab time they may want for this and other projects.
