ENTREPRENEURSHIP CLUB

The Entrepreneurship Club for Youth is for TEENS and YOUNG ADULTS who want to learn entrepreneurial skills to grow and succeed in business. Mentors who have business training or experience in starting a company guide the club. Entrepreneurship preparation and business preparation are closely linked.

Entrepreneurs need business skills to succeed, and businesses need entrepreneurial skills to grow and succeed. Therefore we structure the Entrepreneurship Club for Youth like a startup. The students come up with product ideas, and attempt to build or market their product. They create a budget and prepare for pitching and selling their product. Although students usually create a business simulation, they may also work on a real business prospect.

WHEN WE MEET

The Entrepreneurship Club for Youth meets at New England Sci-Tech on Saturdays, 10:00 am to noon, as a logical extension of the Saturday mornings Youth Inventors Workshop. We will offer the same assistance in developing ideas for marketing and business development.

WHAT IS ENTREPRENEURSHIP?

The word “entrepreneur” is from late 15th century French, a word meaning literally “to take on” a task (entre- “between” + prendre “to take). In the mid-1800’s it took on a meaning of “business” undertaking. The article in Wikipedia suggests that entrepreneurship is the creation or extraction of value, particularly in managing the risks of launching and running a new business.

LEADERSHIP

We have adult volunteers who help students learn to think “out of the box” and come up with their own ideas for products and inventions.
